National Library Week Celebration with Farmington Community Library: On Becoming a Writer with Author Thrity Umrigar

The Baldwin Public Library and the Friends of the Baldwin Public Library have worked with a group of area libraries to bring renowned author Thrity Umrigar to the Farmington Community Library in celebration of National Library Week.

The Farmington Community Library is pleased to welcome author Thrity Umrigar on Friday April 12 at 7 p.m. in the Main Branch Auditorium. India-born, Cleveland resident Dr. Umrigar will speak about her books and her work as an author. Her 2012 novel The World We Found centers around four best friends from Bombay during the spirited 1970’s and their reunion thirty years after leaving university. The World We Found was named an Oprah Magazine pick.

Her previous books include the novels Bombay Time, The Space Between Us, If Today Be Sweet, The Weight of Heaven, and one memoir, First Darling of the Morning. All of her books have met critical and popular acclaim for her unique portrayals of ordinary people, their struggles and choices. Her characters are vivid and memorable, giving her readers a very personal and often emotional experience.

Currently Dr. Umrigar is a professor at Case Western Reserve University teaching fiction, non-fiction, journalism and American Literature. She continues to write book reviews, blogs and is working on her next novel.

Join us as we celebrate National Library Week with Thrity Umrigar. Following her presentation, she will answer questions and sign copies of her books.  This program is free and open to anyone.  Reservations are required by calling 248-553-0300.
