The Birmingham Public Arts Board is seeking volunteers to participate in a public art knitting project. The project will involve knitting large-scale objects for placement on or near existing public art installations.
This project is intended to involve the Birmingham community in an interactive public art project and to raise awareness for public art programs in Birmingham, including the CityScapes partnership between the city and the Cultural Council of Birmingham-Bloomfield. It is anticipated that the displays will occur over the course of the weekend of Sept. 21-23 — which will commence with a “yarn-cutting” ceremony at which all participants will be recognized.
Interested individuals or groups should contact Toya Glenn or Christian Wuerth at 248-5430-1810 no later than Feb. 14 for additional details. An informational meeting and tour of possible locations is tentatively planned for late February.
