Astreins Fine Jewelry has been a staple of downtown Birmingham for more than 30 years.

Owner Gary Astrein recently submitted information about the business through the Small Business Spotlight.

What does your business offer? 

Fine jewelry, diamonds, watches, pearls, earrings, wedding bands, engagement rings, bracelets, pendants, sterling silver, on-site repairs and a full custom design service.

What's your most popular product or service? 

High fashion jewelry and engagement rings and an excellent repair service.

What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?

We are one of the oldest family run independent retail businesses in Birmingham.

When was the business founded?

June 1974

How did your business come to be? 

We started out as a 500 square foot upstairs gift boutique selling turquoise jewelry and local hand made arts and crafts. We moved to a much larger street level location in 1976 and have been there ever since.

Why did you choose the area you did?

The area actually chose us. We stumbled upon an opportunity to buy out a brand new existing business right after it opened.
