The Birmingham Seaholm Maples scored late in the first half to take the lead over crosstown rival Birmingham Groves at Seaholm's Maple Field Friday night.
Both teams are undefeated and playing for the top spot in the OAA Blue Division.
Donning 'Fear the Forest' white shirts and white face paint, the Maples faithful raucously cheered despite a sluggish start for Seaholm's varsity squad on homecoming.
Not to be outdone were Groves students and a strong showing of alumni who filled the visiting bleachers in neon and black.
The crowd over-filled the stadium and fans from both schools lined the fences and grass hill behind the end zone.
The Falcons opened the scoring with a touchdown with 8:14 remaining in the first quarter, but Seaholm responded by blocking the ensuing extra point. A punt return for a touchdown opened up a two score lead for Groves roughly two minutes later, but the two point conversion failed.
Seaholm responded with a touchdown at the close if the first quarter, and put up another with just 13 seconds left in the half.
