Birmingham Residents Have Chance to Name The ‘Little Free Library’

From The City of Birmingham: The City of Birmingham’s first ‘Little Free Library’ debuted in Barnum Park last summer. The City invites Birmingham residents and students in the Birmingham School District to enter a contest to name the library, which is shaped like an owl.

Barnum Park’s Little Free Library is a “take a book, leave a book” free book exchange. Last summer the Friends of the Baldwin Public Library group donated approximately 20 books for children of all ages to kick off the program, which has been very well received by the community. Barnum Park’s owl flew away for the winter but shall return to its perch located in the sanctuary of the park near the south east corner this spring.

Download the contest rules and entry form at www.bhamgov.org/barnum. All entries must be received between February 27 and March 27, 2017. Three finalists and the contest winner will be selected by the City of Birmingham Parks & Recreation Board. The new name and contest winner will be announced at the Tuesday, April 11 Parks and Recreation Board meeting. The contest winner’s name will be placed on a plaque that will be installed on the Free Little Library.
