Solar Eclipse Over Metro Detroit: Will Skies Be Cloudy Or Sunny?

METRO DETROIT, MI — Mother Nature may put a damper on Monday’s solar eclipse party. According to the National Weather Service, the metropolitan Detroit area will be mostly cloudy Monday afternoon, with a 40 percent chance of rain after 2 p.m.

Clouds and rain, in fact, will hang around through Tuesday when a cold front will come through and make the remainder of the work week sunny. Here’s a detailed look at metropolitan Detroit’s weather forecast for the week of Aug. 21:

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a high near 81. Southwest wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 76. Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 55.

On Friday, metro Detroit will see a continuation of the great weather. The National Weather Service predicts a sunny day with a high near 76.
