Ducati Motorcycle Dealership Returns to City Commission Monday

A third location has been proposed for a Ducati motorcycle dealership in Birmingham and on Monday, city commissioners will decide if the third time is the charm when it comes to approval for the specialty motorcycle company.

Commissioners will meet at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Stay tuned to Birmingham Patch all week to hear what happened, or watch the meeting live either on Public Access Channel 15 or at the city's website.

Appointments

On Monday, commissioners will interview a number of residents to serve on several city board, including:

• Two residents for spots on the Public Arts Board, to serve three-year terms that will expire in January 2016. Interviewing is: Linda Wells and Sally Parsons.
• A number of residents for one spot on the city's Design Review Board. The appointee will serve a term expiring in September 2015. Interviewing is: Genevieve Sparby, Mark Coir, Matthew McAlear, Steven Samona, Paula Butler and Frances Steinman.
• Two residents for one spot on the Historic District Commission, to serve a three-year term to expire in September 2015. Interviewing is: Mark Coir and Paula Butler.
• Two residents for one spot on the Advisory Parking Committee, to serve a term ending in September 2014. Interviewing is: Judith Paskiewicz and Kenneth Konop.
• One resident for one spot on the Board of Review, to serve a term ending in December this year. Interviewing is: Natalia Dukas.
• Three residents for one spot on the Triangle District Corridor Improvement Authority, to serve a four-year term ending in December 2016. Interviewing is: Jeff Bautz, Robert Benkert and Kip Cantrick.

Consent Agenda

All items listed on the consent agenda are considered to be routine and will be enacted by one motion and approved by a roll call vote. There will be no separate discussion of the items unless a commissioner or citizen so requests.

• Request from the Principal Shopping District to hold the Birmingham Farmers Market from May-October 2013, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Accept the resignation of Mark Armitage from the Cablecasting Board.
• Accept the resignation of Davira Taragin from the Public Arts Board.
• Waive the 2013 outdoor dining application fee of $200 for the restaurants affected by the Pierce and Merrill streets construction project, set to take place this spring and summer. These restaurants include: Toast, Townhouse Bistro, Elie's, Streetside Seafood, 220 and The Corner.
• Award the contract for the Parking Booth Removal Project, set to take place at the Pierce Street Parking Garage and North Old Woodward Parking Garage, to R.L. Sheridan for a total cost of $17,338.
• Award the contract for the Pierce and Merrill streets paving project to F.D.M. Constracting, Inc. for a total cost of $1,046,018.
• Set a public hearing of necessity for Feb. 25 for the installation of lateral sewers within the Pierce and Merrill street paving project area. Also, set a public hearing of confirmation for the same project for March 4.
• Set a public hearing for Feb. 25 to consider the proposed subdivision of the lost at 740 N. Adams Rd.
• Set a public hearing for Feb. 25 to consider the rezoning request for the vacant lot at 404 Park St.
• Set a public hearing date for Feb. 25 to consider approving the final site plan and special land use permit for Crush Bistro, a 2013 bistro license applicant.

New Business

On Monday, City Commissioners will first consider a Regulated Use request from a group looking to open a Ducati motorcycle dealership at 33828 Woodward Ave., currently the home of Auto Europe. This is the same group that tried to open the specialty motorcycle dealership at 670 S. Old Woodward late last year, but was turned down by the commission due to a lack of details.

Also on Monday, City Manager Bob Bruner will present a memo to the City Commission discussing the question of whether the city's bistro licenses can be transferred or "assigned" to different owners — a question raised last summer when Papa Joe's came to the city looking to assign their bistro license to another owner.

Finally, commissioners will hear an update on the creation of the city's Multi-Modal Transportation Master Plan. A community workshop was held earlier this month to collect resident feedback on the plan.
