Oakland County NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) is proud to present “War on Drugs: 30 year of Failed Policy” by Joe White of Michigan NORML and the Michigan Justice Commission, on Monday July, 23, 2012 at 7 pm at the Baldwin Public Library, Birmingham, MI.
In this explosive presentation, Joe argues that the ‘War on Drugs, a domestic War, has shred the constitution and has endangered our basic freedoms and rights as citizens. He explores the themes of The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander and looks at a recent Public Safety Performance Project done by the Pew Center on the States focusing on the City of Detroit. Joe also provides a comprehensive history of the War on Drugs and the public policy that has led it to its current evolution of a private prison system with an insatiable appetite for new inmates.
Oakland County NORML is an affiliate of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, a nonprofit, public-interest lobby that provides a voice for those Americans who oppose marijuana prohibition. We are Oakland County’s hub for marijuana education and political action. Our monthly public meetings are held on the last Monday of each month. Join us on Meet-Up to find out about our meeting times and locations.
