Marian, Country Day in the Running for MLive's Team of the Week

The Country Day boys lacrosse team and Marian girls soccer squad are no strangers to winning.

The spring sports season is off to a big start in the Birmingham area, with two local teams already nominated for a regional honor.

Marian's soccer team as well as Detroit Country Day's boys lacrosse team are contenders in MLive's first Team of the Week poll of the spring season. Whichever team receives the most votes will receive special coverage of their next game.

Also in the running this week is Warren De La Salle's baseball team, Lakeland's softball team and the girls track and field team from Grosse Pointe South.

Detroit Country Day's boys lacrosse team is known for going far. While the Yellowjackets lost to Grand Rapids Forest Hills during the state finals last year, the team took home the state title in 2011 after beating East Grand Rapids 13-5. 

Meanwhile, the girls from Marian are the defending state champions after defeating Fenton 2-0 in the state finals last year.

This weekend, Country Day will play Culver Academy away at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Marian, meanwhile, plays Regina at 5:30 p.m. April 9 at home.
