METRO DETROIT, MI — Drivers heading across I-696 may experience some delays Monday afternoon. The Michigan Department of Transportation upgrading signs along the freeway in Oakland County from Novi Road to Dequindre Road, including all applicable ramps.
The project began Monday on eastbound and westbound I-696 from just east of the I-275/I-96/M-5 interchange to Dequindre Road. Work requires lane closures in sections along the freeway and moving every 10-14 days to a new location. Work will be performed during the day and at night.
The project includes replacing signs and sign supports, reinstalling new signs on retained trusses and cantilevers, constructing new trusses in many locations, and replacing bridge-connected signs throughout this corridor. MDOT replaces signs approximately every 10-15 years to ensure that the motoring public can see the signs during daytime and nighttime.
