Upstart Hotel Takes Aim Birmingham's Townsend Hotel

"We don't want the kind of traffic glut that happens around the Townsend," a Birmingham Boutique Hotel attorney says.

BIRMINGHAM, MI — The Townsend Hotel, rated as one of the best in the Midwest by Conde Nast Traveler, was the subject of some pointed remarks by an upcoming competitor. An attorney for the Birmingham Boutique Hotel, which will be located at 298 S. Old Woodward, said The Townsend is not a good neighbor when it comes to traffic and parking, according to a Birmingham Eccentric report.

“We don’t want the kind of traffic glut that happens around the Townsend … that’s not the way we want to run the hotel,” Attorney Richard Rattner told the Birmingham City Commission. “The drop-off area of the Townsend is always crowded and you’re always going around someone.”
The Birmingham Boutique Hotel is seeking to remove eight city parking meters for valet service. Commissioners postponed a decision on the request.
