Are Increased Speed Limits on Lone Pine Road a Problem?

The speed limit on the main roadway feeding into two buildings in the Bloomfield Hills Schools recently increased.

Patch Editor Joni-Hubred Golden contributed to this report.

A speed limit increase on the stretch of Lone Pine road that passes by two schools apparently has some residents on the outskirts of Bloomfield Township upset.

Oakland County Commissioner John Scott told West Bloomfield Township officials Monday that he received multiple complaint calls about the increased speed limit on Lone Pine Road, from 35 to 45 miles per hour. The road passes by Lone Pine Elementary and West Hills Middle School.

"Personally, I think this is wrong and is not for our residents but for the transient commuters," said resident Paul Smith in an email to Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch.

Scott said he contacted the Road Commission for Oakland County, and "they pretty much told me not a thing they can do, nor I." The change was made based on a state police study, he said.

"I don't understand why they raised it. There are two schools there, and from what I'm reading, there aren't even signs that have you slow down during school hours," Scott said.
