Cobras are King on Woodward Avenue at Dream Drive

Dozens took their spins on the eve of the Woodward Dream Cruise in classic Superperformance Cobras as part of Bloomfield Township's Dream Drive.

Craig Aylsworth says there's a lot to love about driving a Superperformance Cobra roadster; the sleek look, the open, simplistic design, and the way everyone — even other classic car owners — turn to see it as he drives by.

But when he boils it down, his favorite features are the power and speed.

"It's just nasty fast," the Canton resident said with a grin before peeling out onto northbound Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Township Friday night.

Aylsworth was one of roughly a dozen local replica Cobra owners to host guests as part of Bloomfield Township's Dream Drive. One at a time, they took people for a ride in the two-seat roadster from the Comerica Bank near the Birmingham border to the Woodward and Long Lake Road intersection, and back. The annual fundraiser benefitted the Bloomfield Hills Optimist Club, Bloomfield Township Fire Department Charities and Bloomfield Township Police Department Benevolent Fund.

"What's better than riding with the wind in your hair in a great car and raise a little bit of money for charity?" said Linda, a first-time 'Dream Driver' from Lake Orion.
