Cranbrook Educational Community announced today the appointment of Mark Reuss as Board of Trustees Chair and Dr. Linda Gillum as Board of Trustees First Vice Chair. The positions will be effective at the start of Cranbrook’s new fiscal year on July 1, 2019. Bruce Peterson, who has served as Chair of the Board of Trustees since 2012, has decided to step down as Chair but will remain on the Board for another year to assist with the transition.

“My time as a Cranbrook volunteer leader has involved the most rewarding volunteer service I have known. After seven years as Chair of the Board of Trustees, I believe it is time to turn over that responsibility to new volunteer leaders who will oversee the next chapter in Cranbrook’s history. I am confident that Mark and Linda will bring great passion, commitment and fresh ideas to their roles. Their background and expertise has been, and will remain, invaluable to Cranbrook, and I know they will continue to strengthen Cranbrook’s programs and set the course for an even brighter future,” said Peterson.

Mark Reuss is the president of General Motors and has a long-standing affiliation with Cranbrook, as an alumnus of Cranbrook Schools, a parent of current and past Cranbrook Schools students, and as a member of the Cranbrook Horizons-Upward Bound Board. He was elected to Cranbrook’s Board of Trustees in 2011 and currently serves as a Vice Chair.

As an alumnus, Reuss said that he is “very proud of the work Cranbrook does, and to take on this new role is truly a great honor. I’m looking forward to working with Linda on strategic matters.”

Reuss is actively involved with all areas of Cranbrook Educational Community and many other metro-Detroit institutions, including the Detroit Workforce Development Board, The Skillman Foundation and The Henry Ford Board of Trustees. He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University and Master of Business Administration from Duke University, where he serves on the Duke Fuqua School of Business Board of Visitors.

Dr. Gillum recently retired from her position as Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and previously served as Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan. She also has a long relationship with Cranbrook as a parent of Cranbrook Schools graduates, a past member of the Cranbrook Schools Board of Governors, and as a member of the Cranbrook Horizons-Upward Bound Board. She was elected to Cranbrook’s Board of Trustees in 2007 and currently serves as a Vice Chair.

“I’m grateful that my involvement with Cranbrook has continued after my children graduated,” said Dr. Gillum. “I appreciate the opportunity, in partnership with Mark, to help guide Cranbrook into the years ahead.”

Dr. Gillum is active with the Michigan Women’s Foundation and Detroit Zoological Society Board, among other organizations, and has had a rich career in academic medicine and higher education administration.

The Cranbrook Educational Community Board of Trustees include representatives from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Cranbrook Institute of Science, Cranbrook Schools, and the Community at-large.
