Landscaping Equipment, Catalytic Converter Stolen in Bloomfield Township

The Bloomfield Township Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department investigated the theft of landscaping equipment from a truck parked outside an office building last week. The Oct. 11 theft is similar to a few recent incidents where a thief for thieves targeted lawn equipment and catalytic converters.

The victim reported missing items from his truck and a review of the security camera footage showed that a lone suspect started taking things off the truck at about 3 a.m. About an hour later, according to reports, another man came and and cut off the catalytic converters. Investigators are trying to identify the men, but did not provide physical descriptions. The estimated value of the loss is $4,400.

The department just last week warned residents to lock their vehicles and take extra precautions with valuables typically left in vehicles outdoors after taking numerous break-in reports during the week.

Detectives are currently investigating nearly a dozen similar thefts reported since the spring. That includes the fleet vehicles parked outside the offices of a local engineering firm, and car dealerships over the last month. No suspect information was available.
