
Bloomfield Hills philanthropist Eugene Applebaum, 81, died Friday Dec. 15. Applebaum, a pharmacist who earned his degree at Wayne State, created the Arbor Drugs chain, eventually selling his network of 200 stores to CVS. In 1999, with his wife, Marcia, Applebaum made the largest capital gift Detroit’s Jewish community has ever received, which was used to expand and update the community campus in West Bloomfield. This 195-acre parcel at Drake and Maple, now bears the name Eugene and Marcia Applebaum Jewish Community Campus.
