Popular Oakland County Movie Theater Permanently Closes Down

The well-known indie movie theater in Bloomfield Township​ decided to permanently close down after their lease expired​.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — A popular Oakland County movie theater permanently closed down Monday after 12 years.

Maple Theater, a well-known indie movie theater in Bloomfield Township, decided to permanently close down after their lease expired.

Officials at the movie theater also said thy were unable to financially keep the theater "a first-class establishment," mainly because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials said they tried to return to pre-pandemic attendance.

"We have been honored to be stewards of The Maple Theater and appreciate all the support and patronage from the community these past 12 years. With sincere gratitude and love, we thank everyone who bought a ticket, ate a meal. We will savor the memories from opening night, Secret Cinema, and the many celebrations and special events that will live forever in our memories," officials at the theater said in a statement.

Officials said membership information will be transferred to Emagine. The Maple is latest independent movie theater to close down, joining the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak and Cinema Detroit in Midtown.
