Neil Simon's 'Rumors', Corn Roast and More Happening This Weekend Around Bloomfield

August Theater Company Presents 'Rumors'

The August Theater Company, a Bloomfield Hills-based theater group, will perform Neil Simon's 'Rumors' Friday and Saturday Aug. 9 and 10 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. at Orchard Lake Community Church, 5171 Commerce Rd. in Orchard Lake. The company formed this spring and is comprised of local actors that currently attend or recently graduated from local high schools. General admission tickets are $12, and are$10 for students. 

Second Saturday Book Sale

The Friends of the Bloomfield Township Public Library will host their monthly book sale from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Saturday. Available will be adult books featuring the Friends' recommendations for summer reading, genealogy books and publications, and books on collectible dolls. 

The library is also overstocked with sports, textbooks and business books. Patrons that spend $5 can choose a free book off the Free Book Cart (limit one per customer). The first hour of the sale is for Friends of the Library members only, then the sale is open to the public.

2013 Annual Corn Roast

Join the community celebration featuring live entertainment, face painting, an open barn, hay rides, and lots of locally grown food and Michigan-made products at the 2013 Corn Roast at the Bowers from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Charles L. Bowers School Farm. The annual event is hosted by Preservation Bloomfield, and tickets are $20 for adults, and $5 for kids under 12. Children under age 2 are admitted free. All proceeds will benefit the 1832 Barton Farmhouse and Craig Log Cabin. Call Pam Williams at 248-705-8025 to register or for more information.

Run 2 Remember 5K

The Bloomfield Hills Blackhawk Cross Country team will host the first ever 5K run/walk to raise money for Lupus and the Beaumont Student Heart Health Foundation. The event is in honor of Peter Catcho and Susan Redman.

Cat Adoption Marathon

Pet Supplies Plus  will host "The Cat’s Pajamas," a 200-cat adoption marathon  from 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11. Families can choose from 200 cats and kittens available for adoption from Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center in Auburn Hills at the annual event. The adoption fee of $60 includes spay/neuter and vaccinations, and all adopters get a free feline wellness exam courtesy of Ross Hospital for Animals in Bloomfield Hills.
