'The Truth Booth' Project in Metro Detroit, Flint for 2 Weeks

METRO DETROIT, MI — The Truth Booth, a portable, inflatable video recording studio shaped like giant speech bubble, is coming to Bloomfield Hills Sunday and will make several stops in Metro Detroit and Flint over the next two weeks as part of a national tour that continues through Election Day.

“In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth,” was created as a Collective Cause touring art project by artists Ryan Alexiev, Jim Ricks, Will Sylvester and Hank Willis Thomas. The booth’s interior is equipped to record and compile video responses by people as they complete the sentence: “The Truth Is…”

The tour will debut Sunday on the grounds of Cranbrook Art Museum, 39221 Woodward Ave, as part of a Family Day Celebration. There will be crafts for kids related to “The Truth Booth” and the museum’s current summer exhibition “Hippie Modernism.” Hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

The recorded results of this project will be used to create an ambitious 60-foot-wide video installation that will open at Cranbrook Art Museum in November 2016.

The project was launched in Ireland in 2011 at the Galway Arts Festival and has since traveled the world at well-known arts festivals, cities and rural fairs to capture a diverse viewpoints of people at a time of change and uncertainty.

The Truth Booth is expected to visit all 50 U.S. states by November.
