Brighton Schools Host Technology and Education Event
The two-day Michigan Google in Education conference is being held at Brighton High School.
Hundreds of teachers across Michigan gathered in Brighton on Monday to attend the second annual Michigan Google in Education conference designed to help educators bring new and more advanced technology applications into the classrooms.
Educators from Brighton, Rochester, Plymouth-Canton and Port Huron attended the sold out event that runs through Tuesday which Brighton Area Schools Director of Technology Chris Turner called an "opportunity to learn about the range of Google tools that are available for both the end users-- classroom teachers-- and the technology administrator as well."
From Chrome books to office applications, having the latest technology in classrooms and available to Brighton staff and students is a "great solution," according to Turner, especially when dealing with students who are more literate and connected than ever before.
"The kids can collaborate or work individually on their work here at school, at the coffee shop or at home," Tucker said. "It’s all the Brighton intellectual property so they can always access their work wherever their at as long as they have a device, so that's one important advantage."
With sessions ranging from introductory levels to more advanced skills, the conference also provides a Google certified educator course where participants are able to learn and train others in their own district to become more Google literate.
"That really helps save costs for school districts," Turner said. "They (schools) can just send a couple people to a conference like this instead of their entire staff."Â
The miGoogle conference is cosponsored by Google, the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning, the REMC Association of Michigan and Brighton Area Schools.
