Tuskegee Airman Speaks at Library and More This Weekend

1. Larry Martin's WWII: In Their Own Words
- When: Saturday, August 24, 2013, 10:00 AM
- Where: Dexter District Library
- What: Join us for this taped interview documenting the story of Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson flew 18 combat missions before being shot down on August 12, 1944 over Toulon, France. Mr. Jefferson was taken as a POW and sent to Stalag Luft 3 in Poland, the prison camp featured in the movie The Great Escape starring Steve McQueen and James Garner. Lt. Col. Jefferson is scheduled to attend and answer questions following the video presentation. Please contact the Adult Reference Desk at 734-426-4477 to register.
2. Writers Read Event - Alex Weinstien
- When: Friday, August 23, 2013, 7:00 PM
- Where: Brewed Awakenings Cafe; 7025 E. Michigan Ave.
- What: Alexander Weinstein is the director of The Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing. His fiction and translations have appeared in Cream City Review, Notre-Dame Review, Pleiades, PRISM International, Sou’Wester, World Literature Today, Zone 3, and other journals. His fiction has been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes, an O.Henry Prize, and appears in the anthology 2013 New Stories from the Midwest. He is a professor of Creative Writing at Siena Heights University, and a lecturer at the University of Michigan. A graduate of Indiana University’s MFA program and Naropa University’s Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, he has been working as a creative writing teacher and freelance editor for the past twelve years, and leads fiction workshops in the United States and Europe.
3. Booths, Books & Bites: A Library Lawn & Treasure Sale
- When: Saturday, August 24, 2013, 10:00 AM

The Salem-South Lyon District Library will be hosting a community lawn and treasure sale Saturday, August 24th from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Individuals, crafters, businesses and others are welcome to apply to sell items.
