Bike to School Day, which was celebrated in Clawson on Wednesday morning, helped bring together the city.

Chains were tightened, helmets were strapped on, and the community hit the pavement for Bike to School Day, part of National Bike Month.

Students rode to Kenwood and Schalm Elementaries in Clawson with the lead from school officials, city officials, police, and parents, among others.

The entire community benefits when there is less traffic congestion. Many kids are not getting the exercise they need and less active children are more likely to be overweight and at an increased risk for chronic diseases. Experts recommend that children get 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day. Our community can create safe environments for children of all abilities and teach safety skills to walkers, bikers and drivers.
