Legend has it that the secret recipe of Tawas Bay Fudge was lost in a fire in 1919. It was more than half a century later that two lifetime friends returned to East Tawas and began to talk about the town's history. "What do you think this is," one said, pulling an old crumbled piece of paper out of his pocket. "The other half of this," the other one replied. And wouldn't you know it, written on the two pieces of paper was the recipe for Tawas Bay Fudge. Their great grandfathers had written it down the day after the fire and ripped it in half, so that only they together, or their heirs, could replicate the creamy confection. Don't believe it? The company admits they've "fudged" their history a bit, but isn't that their business?
