7 Big Reds to Continue Football Careers in College

Seven members of Chippewa Valley High School's varsity football team have committed to play at the college level next year, including the 2012 Team MVP, Jerry Taylor.

Chippewa Valley High School announced this week that seven of its varsity athletes have committed to continuing their football careers at the college level.

"We are very proud of all of these young men, who will be continuing their education and their football careers at the next level," said Scott Merchant, CVHS head coach. "It is quite a testament to their class that 7 of the 19 seniors will be playing college football. We knew it was a special senior class and obviously the colleges thought so, too. They have elevated our program and next year's seniors have some big shoes to fill."

  • Jerry Taylor, No. 1, has accepted an athletic scholarship to play football at Northwood University and signed a national letter of intent. Taylor, who played defensive back and wide receiver for the Big Reds, was the team's MVP for 2012. He has also been selected to represent the East team in this year's Michigan High School Football All-Star Game held at Grand Valley State University on June 22.
  • Chuck Ahee, No. 55, has committed to play at Hillsdale College. Ahee, a linebacker and offensive lineman for the Big Reds, was voted defensive most valuable player after the 2012 season and awarded the Bob Schroeder Character Award.
  • Ki’Shon Johnson, No. 50, heads to Siena Heights University. Johnson, an offensive and defensive lineman for the Big Reds, was voted most valuable defensive lineman at the end of the 2012 season.
  • Chris Moore, No. 2, is one of three Big Reds planning to play for Defiance College. Moore served as a defensive back and wide receiver for CVHS.
  • Daryl Oliver-Windham, No. 51, is also headed to Defiance College. He played the Big Reds' defensive and offensive line and was voted most improved after the 2012 season.
  • Szabi Simo, No. 27, has committed to play for Kenyon College. The 2012 special teams most valuable player, the Big Red kicker was also given the scholar athete aware in recognition of his 4.312 GPA. 
  • Devin Sutgrey, No. 56, is the third Big Red headed to Defiance College. He was voted most valuable offensive lineman after the 2012 season.
