Consolidation talks postponed
The township board was also slated to vote on consolidating the departments of finance, information technology and human resources Monday, but the issue was postponed until Feb. 4 to give board members additional time to review the proposal.
Supervisor Robert Cannon said during his State of the Township address Jan. 25 that while this plan will "not save any money for township, it will consolidate and allow us to do a lot more than we currently can."
The three departments would be merged into a single Administrative Services Department and the positions of HR, IT and Finance director eliminated. These positions would be replaced by "assistant directors" and a human resources manager within the new department. The new positions would receive the same rate of pay and benefits as the current director position.
Consolidation is a familiar theme within the township Last year, the township consolidated its departments of engineering, water and sewer, and public works into one public services division and more recently, the board voted to consolidate its police and fire dispatch services with Macomb County.
