Clinton Township Boy, 4, Killed Crossing Street Identified

The boy's family told WXYZ that he and his 5-year-old sister snuck out of the house before the crash.

Details are emerging about the early Saturday morning accident that killed a 4-year-old Clinton Township boy as he crossed Groesbeck.

The child was identified as Steven Pelshaw Jr. in a Channel 7 report. Family members told the station that Steven and his 5-year-old sister snuck out of their home at 2:30 a.m. while their grandmother slept and mother was grocery shopping. The station reports that Steven was following his sister to the 7/Eleven store across the busy road before he was struck by a car.

"I don't know why. (The kids) have never done anything like this," their mother Crystal Pelshaw told the station. "They don't even go by the front door unless there's a grownup with them."

The driver saw Steven's sister in the convenience store's driveway but did not see him. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash. Criminal charges are not expected to be filed against anyone involved, police told The Macomb Daily

“We do not believe there was any recklessness or endangering-the-children scenario at play here,” police Lt. Raymund Macksoud told the newspaper.
