Clinton Township Father and Son Take Top Spots in National Ice Boating Championship

Ron and Griffin Sherry placed second and fifth, respectively, in the Jan. 30-Feb. 2 North American Gold Fleet Ice Boating Championship on Lake Pepin in Lake City, MN.

A Clinton Township father and son have taken two of the top five spots at the 2013 North American Gold Fleet Ice Boating Championship in Minnesota, The Macomb Daily reports.Β 

Ron and Griffin Sherry placed second and fifth, respectively, in the Jan. 30-Feb. 2 competition on Lake Pepin in Lake City, MN, according to race results.

Although Ron Sherry finished in second place in the North American Gold Fleet, he told The Macomb Daily his 15-year-old son's fifth-place finish was "the talk of the regatta."

Ron Sherry, who founded Composite Concepts, Inc. in 1995 to develop and supply composite masts, ice boat runners and custom ice boat hardware to sailors around the world, is a five-time ice boat world champion title holder, according to his company website.

He finished fourth in the most recent Gold Cup World Championship, which was also held on Lake Pepin.
