Oil Spill Cleanup Nearly Complete In Clinton Township

About 6,000 gallons of hydraulic oil spilled into the Teske Drain.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — The cleanup of 6,000 gallons of hydraulic oil from the Teske Drain in Clinton Township is nearly complete. The good news is that none of the oil appears to escaped into the Clinton River, Macomb County Drain Commissioner Candice Miller stated in a Detroit News report.

The oil spilled occurred on Aug. 9. After investigating the incident, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality determined that the oil came from a Complete Prototype Services facility in Fraser. A fire caused the spill, the MDEQ told the Detroit News.

"We have a zero tolerance for contaminants in our drains ... and we are very appreciative of the citizens alerting us," Miller said. "The company is a great corporate citizen and cares deeply about our waterways. The fire was not their fault."
