Sheriff's Deputies Chase, Arrest Clinton Twp. Man Suspected in Jewelry Store Break-in

A 25-year-old Clinton Township man accused of breaking into a Macomb jewelry store was arrested Monday morning after leading police on a car chase down 21 Mile Road.

A Macomb County Sheriff's deputy patrolling the 21 Mile and Romeo Plank area saw the man break into Matt's Jewelry around 5:12 a.m. Feb. 4. As the deputy approached, the suspect ran to a nearby vehicle and fled the scene, according to the sheriff's report.

After a short chase, the suspect crashed his car on South La Roche Drive, opposite Dakota High School. He was arrested for breaking and entering and fleeing and eluding, according to the sheriff's report.

Detectives are also investigating a previous break-in at Matt's Jewelry on Jan. 31.

Sheriff's officers responded to a glass breakage alarm at the store around 11:30 p.m. and found the front window broken out. The store owner told police a $1,000 bill, $500 bill and $1 bill were stolen, according to the sheriff's report.

It is unknown at this time if the suspect in Monday's break-in was involved in the Jan. 31 incident.
