La Pyramids Brings Flavors of Mediterranean to 18 Mile and Garfield

Serving up traditional Middle Eastern fare seven days a week, La Pyramids is Clinton Township's newest restaurant.

The southwest corner of 18 Mile Road and Garfield is getting a taste of Egypt.

Serving authentic Mediterranean and traditional Egyptian cuisine, La Pyramids is Clinton Township's newest restaurant and the first venture of native Egyptians Samy Azer and Emil Mina in their newly adopted land.

Formerly the home of 18th Street Rib House and Elope, La Pyramids is the third restaurant in recent years to occupy the building at 40813 Garfield Rd., but one for which Clinton Township Supervisor Bob Cannon has high hopes.

"The owners have really thought out their business plan and their menu is better," Cannon said. "I was sad to see the others fold up, but (the new owners) have come in here and really cleaned it up. The food is outstanding."

Although La Pyramids opened only two months ago, Cannon added the hommous is already a favorite in his household.

Other items on the menu with which fans of Middle Eastern fare may be familiar include spinach pie, fattoush, garlic spread, shish kabob, shawarma, falafel, tabbouli and kibbee.

More unique dishes range from quail and sword fish to traditional Egyptian Koshari – a mixture of rice, pasta, lentils, chickpeas, fried onion and sauce – and Ful Medames – fava beans cooked and seasoned with lemon, cumin and other spices.

La Pyramids also offers fresh-squeezed juices, smoothies and Arabic coffee, as well as a kid's menu for less adventurous younger guests.

An oven in plain view from the main dining room serves as proof of the restaurant's promise of "fresh baked bread, all day, every day."

La Pyramids celebrated its grand opening Wednesday, Jan. 30, with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The restaurant is currently open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Check out La Pyramids' menu online.
