Wanted Man Found With Taser, Marijuana; Deodorant Thieves Leave Trail in Clinton Township

The following information was supplied by the Clinton Township Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Wanted Man Found With Taser, Marijuana

A 24-year-old man with open warrants for malicious destruction of property and marijuana possession was arrested Jan. 15 for a weapons violation, Clinton Township police say.

Officers conducting an area check in the 24000 block of Lotus came across the man parked in the fire lane. When questioned, the suspect told police his license was suspended. Officers later learned the suspect also had a series of open warrants, prompting them to handcuff him and searched his vehicle, according to the police report.

A ViperTek taser was found in his coat pocket, while marijuana was found in car’s radio housing, according to police. A scale and baggie were also discovered in a duffel bag in the car.

The suspect told police he was unaware the taser was in the coat, which he said had been borrowed from a relative. Under Michigan law, individuals must have a concealed-carry permit to carry electronic stun guns. As the suspect did not have a CCW permit, his possession of the taser was considered a weapons violation, according to police.

The theft occurred around 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Rite Aid on Gratiot. The store manager told police two women came into the store and concealed more than 50 bottles of deodorant in their purses.

The manager attempted to stop the women before they left the store but the pair fled, getting into a maroon van and driving northbound on Gratiot, according to police.
