ACCESS Offers Heart Health Screenings Saturday for Dearborn Students

Athletes can pay a discounted fee for heart tests prior to the start of the school year in Dearborn.

Each year, more students die from sudden cardiac arrest due to undetected abnormal heart structure or abnormal heart rhythms.

In a policy statement published in the journal Pediatrics in 2012, the American Academy of Pediatrics estimated that 2,000 people under the age of 25 die from sudden cardiac arrest in the United States every year.

To help young people and their families have peace of mind, ACCESS is offering low-cost screenings on Saturday for students ages 13-18 during a back-to-school health fair.

From 10 a.m.to 3 p.m., students can have their hearts and vascular system evaluated by a team of specialists at the ACCESS Community Clinic, 6450 Maple St. in Dearborn.

Tests include: medical history evaluation, blood pressure check, electrocardiogram ($49), echocardiogram ($89), and a heart attack and stroke risk assessment for $50.

Students also will be able to get their immunizations and school and sports physicals. Click here for more information.
