City Cautions Residents on Purchasing Emergency Water Line Insurance
An insurance company is mailing Dearborn residents offers for emergency water service repair.

Dearborn city officials say the city is not associated with recent mailings from an insurance company urging residents to purchase policies for emergency repairs of water service lines on private property.
"The city of Dearborn has no relationship with the private insurance company," said Mary Laundroche, director of the Department of Information.
"The city does not make recommendations regarding the purchase of insurance policies," she said.
Laundroche said out of the 33,000 households in Dearborn, only two to four a year are affected by water service line emergencies that require extensive repairs.

"It's a rare occurence," she said.
A water service line is the pipe on a piece of property that brings fresh water into the home from the city’s water line, which is usually located in the street. Homeowners, not the city, are responsible for repairs and maintenance of the water service line on their property.
