Dearborn Fire Chief Appointed To MI EMS Committee

Michigan health officials picked Dearborn's Fire Chief Joseph Murray to serve on the Emergency Medical Services Coordination Committee​.

DEARBORN, MI — Michigan health officials picked Dearborn’s Fire Chief Joseph Murray to serve on the Emergency Medical Services Coordination Committee.

The committee provides coordination and exchange of information on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs and services, act as liaison between emergency services departments and MDHHS, advise the legislature and the department on matters concerning EMS throughout the state and provide recommendations concerning the EMS system in Michigan.

His term began on New Year's Day and runs through Dec. 31, 2028 and seats one of the positions for the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs on the Committee.

"I am honored to be selected for this important state committee that makes recommendations to the State’s health department on issues relating to our EMS first responders. This appointment demonstrates Dearborn’s regional partnerships and leadership in informing important policy," Murray said.

Murray has served as the president for the Southeastern Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs, has been president of the Western Wayne Mutual Aid Association for 10 years straight and past vice chairman of the Downriver Mutual Aid Association.

Murray has served Dearborn as Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator since 2012. He was re-appointed by Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud in 2022. His firefighting career began in 2001 and he was hired into the Dearborn Fire Department in 2004.
