Man Critically Hurt In Wayne County Police Shooting: Cops

Police said the man charged officers with a box cutter style knife.

ALLEN PARK, MI — A man was injured in a police shooting Sunday in Wayne County, according to police.

The shooting happened around 3:20 p.m. on Southfield Road near Dix Highway in Allen Park, according to police.

Officers first encountered the man in the area of Southfield Road and Roger Avenue near the 7 Brew Coffee shop, according to police.

Police said he was holding a box cutter style knife to his throat and threatening to hurt himself.

Officers tried using a taser, but it didn't work, and the man began walking toward the entrance of an Arby's restaurant while still holding the knife, according to police.

An officer fired a "less lethal" shotgun round, which again had no effect, as the man began walking along Southfield Road, according to police.

Officers gave loud verbal commands to drop the knife, but he didn't, and aggressively moved toward the officers, according to police.

That's when an officer shot him in the arm, according to police.

The 36-year-old Lincoln Park man was taken to Corewell Health Hospital in Dearborn where he was listed in critical condition, according to police.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

Police were still investigating the shooting.
