Dearborn Golfer Is All Aces
Local golfer just recorded his eighth hole-in-one over his long playing career.
DEARBORN, MI — For most golfers, scoring a hole-in-one is something that might happen once in a lifetime. Think about it. A golf hole is 4.25 inches in diameter. Players start anywhere from 100 to 600 yards away from the tiny cup — so the odds are entirely against it.
Unless your name is Rod Kallgren. The Dearborn resident recently aced his eighth hole-in-one, each verified and attested to by golf professionals. Now 90-years-old, Kallgren latest gem came at the Dearborn Hills Golf Course on July 5 when he used a 5-wood to nail the 140-yard sixth hole, according to a Detroit News report.

“I have six sons. I said, ‘Well, I’ll get a hole-in-one for each of the boys,’ which I did,” said Kallgren, who was a battery commander on the front lines of the Korean War in 1952. “And then I got my seventh, and I said, ‘Well, I got a hole-in-one for my wife.’
“Who can tell? I’ve known a lot of guys that were a lot better golfers than I am, (and) they had a lot of balls that were maybe inside a foot, but they just never got one to fall in. So, you know, what can I say?”
