Dearborn High School Students Collect Donations for Boston Marathon Bombing Victims
Students in the high school's Business Professionals of America club will collect donations through Friday.

A fundraising effort is underway at Dearborn High School to raise money for the victims of the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings.
Students in the DHS Business Professionals of America club organized the donation drive by selling popcorn, ice cream, and bagels to students and staff at the school this week.
"The idea for the fundraiser came from how close the incident touched our school since one of our teachers was part of the run that day," club adviser Robert Yoder said.

The Business Professionals of America prepares students for the world of business, Yoder explained. Dearborn students compete against other schools in more than 62 events at the regional, state, and national level during the school year.
Yoder said the club is participating in a national competition in Orlando, Fla. next week and needs to raise funds to cover the travel costs. Any money the club receives in excess of its goal will be sent to the Boston Marathon families.

"So far the students have raised more than $300 for the Boston Marathon charity," he said. "As an educator, it is wonderful to see students set aside raising much needed funds to support our club activities and help others in need. The students at DHS are special, and this is just one small glimpse."
Yoder said the club is collecting donations through Friday. Donations can be made to Dearborn High School BPA by emailing Robert Yoder at yoderr@dearborn.k12.mi.us.
