Dearborn Hosts Korean War Armistice Ceremony

DEARBORN, MI — The public is invited to pay tribute to Korean War veterans and mark the 65th anniversary of the armistice of the Korean War with a solemn ceremony on Saturday, July 28.

The ceremony begins 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Ave., Dearborn. The event will include remarks from Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr.; Jong Kuk Lee, Republic of Korea Consul General of Chicago; Park Son Young Moore, president of the Korean American Community of Detroit; and U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell. The event will also honor the 26 Dearborn servicemen who died during the war.

Korean War veterans, their families and the public are invited to attend. Korean War Veterans who plan to attend are encouraged to contact DAWVC Council Commander Bill Bazzi for special recognition at the event. He can be reached at bbazzi@ford.com or 313-300-7554.

The event is organized by the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council (DAWVC) and the Korean community, with support from the City of Dearborn.

The Korean War took place from June 1950 to July 1953. According to most estimates, more than 36,000 Americans died during the war, 103,000 were wounded, and more than 8,000 were listed as missing in action. More than 5 million Americans served in the war.

The Henry Ford Centennial Library campus is also home to the City’s Veterans Park and War Memorial. The outdoor memorial has four monoliths listing all the Dearborn service members who died during World War I, World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. It also includes a representation of an Eternal Flame and a Battlefield Cross, and information on every war America has fought.
