First Lady's Tea Fundraiser In Dearborn Now June 23

The annual fundraiser was rescheduled due to flooding last month. Tickets are still on sale.

DEARBORN, MI — The Dearborn Community Arts Council will hold its rescheduled First Lady’s Tea fundraiser at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 23 at the Dearborn Hills Golf Course. The event had been postponed due to flooding last month. Tickets for the event are still on sale.

The nonprofit DCAC operates the Padzieski Art Gallery at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, promotes the arts and arts organizations in the Dearborn area, and offers a variety of community arts programs.

Dearborn’s first lady, Christina O’Reilly, is pleased to announce the keynote speaker will be the new Arab American National Museum director, Dr. Diana Abouali. Ms. O’Reilly invited Dr. Abouali to speak at because of the wide range of significant international educational leadership experiences she brings to the AANM.

The highly-anticipated First Lady’s Tea fundraiser and luncheon offers entertainment, an assortment of fine teas and foods, assorted desserts, and opportunities to win raffle prizes. A highlight is viewing the individually decorated tea tables, each with a different theme.

This year, the Dearborn Historical Museum will display information about influential women in the City’s history in celebration of Dearborn’s 90th birthday.

Reservations are required. Tickets are $40 each or a discounted price of $280 for a table of eight. They can be purchased at the box office at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, which is open 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. More about the keynote speaker:
Recently appointed Arab American National Museum (AANM) Director, Dr. Diana Abouali, began work on April 1 leading the Museum in delivering on its mission of telling the story of Arab Americans.

Abouali brings a deep educational background and a wide range of significant experience to the role.

Born in Toronto, Canada, to Palestinian parents, Abouali completed her primary and secondary education in Kuwait; earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College; and received her Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies and a Ph.D. in History and Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University.

She taught for 22 years at Dartmouth College before moving overseas where she has held a variety of roles in research and education in Palestine and Jordan.
