Monthly Film Series Kicks-Off Fundraising for New Dearborn Animal Shelter

The Dearborn Public Library is partnering with the Dearborn Animal Shelter to host a monthly film and speaker series.

The series will kick-off today at 6 p.m. with a screening of award-winning producer Tom McPhee's documentary, An American Opera at the Henry Ford Centennial Library.

The film details the inside story about the rescue of animals that became homeless in New Orleans, La. in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

"It's fitting to start our series with this movie because this year marks the eighth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina," said Michael Kuentz, audio technical consultant at Henry Ford Centennial Library.

The series will feature a new film and speaker on the first Thursday of the month except for November. All films will be geared toward bringing community attention to the needs of the animal shelter and its efforts to raise awareness for animal adoptions. It will also serve as a fundraiser for the construction of a new shelter.

All events are sponsored by the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter and are being produced by Visual Ronin Media, a Dearborn-based media production company.
