Police Burn Confiscated Guns at Severstal Steel in Dearborn

Hundreds of guns confiscated by the Detroit Police Department were burned Tuesday morning at the Severstal steelmaking facility in Dearborn.

Approximately 250 illegal rifles confiscated by the Detroit Police Department were burned Tuesday morning at the Severstal steelmaking facility in Dearborn.

The guns were incinerated in the facility's Basic Oxygen Furnace at temperatures over 3,000 degrees. 

In addition to today's burn, Severstal Dearborn hosts monthly gun burns with the Michigan State Police, the company reported.

"We are proud of our strong partnership with the local enforcement authorities," said Ron Kostyo, vice president and general manager of Severstal Dearborn. "Destroying the contraband makes our community streets safer, and we are happy to assist with this important cause."
