Two separate snowmakers are expected to dump a few inches of fresh snow across southeastern Michigan on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The first round of snow will move into the region Tuesday morning around 11 a.m. and continue through 1 p.m. Snowfall rates will range between a quarter inch and a half inch per hour, the weather service said.

There is also a chance of freezing drizzle in the early afternoon as temperatures climb into the upper 30s, the weather service said.

The Detroit area can expect 1–2 inches of fresh snow by the early afternoon, while areas farther north and into the Thumb region could see slightly more, the weather service said.

The second round of snow will move into the region after 8 p.m. and could dump an additional 1–2 inches of fresh snow across the Detroit area before shifting into a wintry mix, the weather service said.

The snowmaker will likely transition into a wintry mix overnight in areas south of Interstate 69, while areas north of the highway will see straight snow. Some of those areas could see up to an additional 6 inches of fresh snow by Wednesday morning, the weather service said.

Flurries will stick around as colder air moves into the region to end the week. Weekend lows could fall into the single digits with sub-zero wind chills, the weather service said.
