SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — A low pressure system will bring two waves of snow to southeastern Michigan on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The first wave will move into the region between 4 and 10 p.m. Thursday and dump roughly an inch of fresh snow across most areas, according to the weather service.

Areas along and north of Interstate 69 can see higher localized amounts, according to the weather service.

A stronger and more widespread snow system will then move into the southeastern Michigan region after midnight, according to the weather service.

The snow will continue falling overnight and into Friday morning, likely peaking during the morning commute, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect there will be between 1 and 3 inches of fresh snow across southeastern Michigan by Friday morning.

The snow system will begin falling apart during the late morning hours, but scattered snow bands will stick around in some areas through the afternoon and evening hours, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect only minor accumulations through the rest of the day Friday.

Temperatures across southeastern Michigan will also dive into the teens Friday evening with wind chills dropping into the single digits, according to the weather service.

The colder air will stick around in southeastern Michigan through the weekend before another weather system could bring more snow to the region Monday night, according to the weather service.

Forecasters said it's too early to tell how much snow could fall Monday night because temperatures will warm back into the upper 30s, meaning there could be some rain drops mixed in.

Temperatures will continue to warm early next week, possibly reaching 40 degrees on Christmas Day, according to the weather service.
