3-5 Inches Of Snow Possible Amid Wintry Mix Across Southeast MI Monday

Some southeastern Michigan areas will see primarily snow, while others will see rain mixing in the afternoon hours Monday.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Wintry weather will move into southeastern Michigan on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow will develop and begin falling across the southeastern Michigan region during the late morning hours Monday with temperatures in the 30s, according to the weather service.

Areas along and north of Michigan 59 will see 2 to 4 inches of fresh snow, while areas farther north into the Saginaw and Thumb region can see between 3 and 5 inches of snow by Monday night, according to the weather service.

Areas between Michigan 59 and Interstate 96 will start off with snow in the morning hours before it transitions into sleet and rain during the afternoon hours, according to the weather service.

Those areas can see 1 to 2 inches of fresh snow, along with some sleet, freezing rain and accumulating ice by Monday night, according to the weather service.

Areas south of Interstate 94 will also start off with snow, but it will quickly changeover to rain, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect less than 1 inch of fresh snow in those areas, along with some freezing rain and minor ice accumulations, according to the weather service.

The weather system will wind down during the nighttime hours and move out of southeastern Michigan by midnight, according to the weather service.

Overnight lows will stick around the freezing mark before highs start a weeklong warming trend, according to the weather service.

Highs across southeastern Michigan will be in the upper 30s on Tuesday and Christmas Day, before reaching the 40s by the end of the week, according to the weather service.

Weekend highs could then hit the 50s with some rain across southeastern Michigan, according to the weather service.
