'Austin Is A Prime Example Of A True Detroiter': MI Star Student
Patch is working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

DETROIT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from LaTice C Covington who nominated her son Austin, 12th grade of Detroit.

How do you know the star local student?
He is my son
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Austin has performed leaps over what society would have proclaimed would be his destiny! He graduated at the top 10% of all DPS students his 8th grade year, which he also held the title for Validictorian of his graduating class. Despite the obstacles of being raised in two different households Austin remains confident. An all around sportsman, volunteers at local shelters, 4.0 GPA ( he's maintained since 3rd grade)participant in the Midnight Golf Program, Track an Field long jump state champion and just finished modeling classes and the list goes on. But the most important thing about Austin is his humbleness! He sees others differences with respect, he loves whole heartedly, adores and protects his 3 sisters ( one who's 3 years older) and does it with so much grace. He understands that "losing is not a loss, but access to learn how to move forward " He is among the 4 reasons (my children) that I strive hard as a mother to not only encourage, but to be encouraged!
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
