Block Party Mass Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 19 Injured: Reports

DETROIT — A mass shooting at a block party on Detroit’s East Side left two dead and 19 wounded, according to reports.

The attack occurred early Sunday morning in the 13000 block of Rossini Drive, according to Detroit police. No one was in custody as of mid-day Sunday, state police said.

FOX 2, citing sources, reported the deceased to be a man and woman, both 21. The surviving victims ranged in age from 17 to 28, with one 17-year-old girl in critical condition, according to the outlet, which reported multiple victims underwent surgery.

Hundreds had gathered at the party when the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m., according to The Detroit News.

"Everybody took cover, stampeding over people,” 21-year-old Michael Pope told the newspaper. “As I'm running, it's people literally trying to jump over my back to get past me, to get over me because it was so many people running outside in the same direction, backyards, everywhere."

Detroit police plan to implement “a comprehensive new strategy regarding block parties,” with the city’s police chief and mayor expected to provide more details at a briefing Monday, according to the agency.
