Detroit Earns Last Place In List Of Healthiest Cities In America
See why Detroit needs to hustle harder in the health category.

DETROIT, MI — Sounds like Detroit needs to hustle harder. Our beloved city was just ranked last place in a list of the healthiest cities in America. Ouch! That's the finding of a new study by the personal finance website WalletHub.
Researchers analyzed 150 of the most populated cities across America in four categories: health care (e.g. number of doctors and hospital beds per capita), food (e.g. farmer's markets per capita, number of obese residents), fitness (e.g. fitness centers and weight loss centers per capita) and green space (e.g. walk score, running trails per capita).
The result? Detroit nabbed 150th place AKA last. So, why is Detroit considered the unhealthiest city? We earned a slightly poor mark for green space, a certifiably poor fitness rating and especially poor health care and food scores. For example, Detroit is home to the fewest gluten-free restaurants per 100,000 residents in America - just 0.3. Meanwhile, Portland, Ore. has 41 times times as many gluten-free restaurants. Detroit also has some of the lowest number of physically active adults. Anyone suddenly feeling an urge for a quick run along Dequindre Cut?
