Detroit Funeral Home Director Arraigned In Murder Case

An argument between a Detroit funeral home director and his cousin turned deadly earlier this week, prosecutors said.

DETROIT, MI — A Detroit funeral home director has been accused by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy of killing a 58-year-old man Monday.

Major Clora, Jr., 37, of Detroit, was arraigned Thursday morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Joseph Boyer on second-degree murder and felony firearms, according to prosecutors.

Detroit police officers responded to a funeral home in the 5800 block of East Seven Mile Road around 10:42 a.m. Monday following reports of shots being fired in the area, prosecutors said. When the officers arrived, they found the body of a 58-year-old man in the parking lot, according to prosecutors. Clora was arrested at the scene, prosecutors said. The victim is Clora's cousin, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, an argument between the two accused and the victim escalated and Clora pulled a gun, shooting the victim. Prosecutors said more information would become available at future court hearings.

Clora is scheduled for a probable cause conference at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 20 before 36th District Court Judge Kenneth King. Clora's bail was set at $100,000 cash/surety.
