Detroit Man Assaulted Elderly Nursing Home Resident: Prosecutor

Prosecutors said Jaden Hayden is accused of assaulting a 75-year-old nursing home resident and recording the assault on his phone.

DETROIT, MI — A Detroit man is accused of assaulting an elderly nursing home resident and recording the attack on his phone, prosecutors said Thursday. Prosecutors also accused the man of stealing the victim's credit cards.

Jaden T. Hayden, 20, is charged with two counts of assault to do great bodily harm less than murder, larceny in a building and two counts of stealing a financial transaction device, prosecutors said.

"The alleged actions of this defendant are truly and uniquely disturbing," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a news release. "We must be able to trust our loved ones in specialty care facilities. I truly hope that the facts of this case are one of a kind."

Hayden is accused of assaulting Norman Bledsoe, a 75-year-old Detroit nursing home resident, on May 15, prosecutors said. Hayden was in a room with Bledsoe when he set up his cell phone in the room to record while he severely attacked Bledsoe by repeatedly punching him in the head, according to prosecutors.

Nursing home staff heard the commotion and came to Bledsoe's aid, prosecutors said. Bledsoe was bleeding from the sides of his heard, prosecutors said. Hayden told staff Bledsoe had fallen from his bed, prosecutors said.

Hayden posted videos on social media after the attack, and also stole Bledsoe's credit cards, according to prosecutors. The videos were brought to the attention of the Ann Arbor Police Department who provided them to the Detroit Police Department, which led to Hayden's arrest, prosecutors said.

Hayden was arraigned Sunday in 34th District Court in Romulus, prosecutors said. A probable cause conference is scheduled for June 4 and a preliminary examination is scheduled for June 11, prosecutors said.

Hayden received a $300,000 cash/surety bail.
