Detroit Man Charged With Child Abuse, Murder In Infant's Death

A Detroit man has been accused of causing the February 2020 death of an infant who was in his care.

DETROIT, MI — A Detroit man has been accused by prosecutors in the death of an infant who was in his care, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Dwan Floyd Dudley, 25, was arraigned Sunday in 34th District Court on one count of first-degree child abuse and one county of felony murder, prosecutors said.

"This is yet another tragic child death that has occurred during the COVID 19 virus period," Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney Kym Worthy said. "There is much going on in this country at this moment in time. We must not take this out on our children."

According to prosecutors, EMS responded to a home in the 16100 block of Robson in February after receiving a 911 call for a infant who was not breathing. When officers arrived, medics transported the child to a local hospital for treatment, but the infant died, prosecutors said. Prosecutors have accused Dudley of causing the death, but did not specify how the death occurred.

Prosecutors said Dudley and the child's mother were acquaintances.
